California Earthquake Early Warning System Update for Schools

  • 29 Jan 2019
  • 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
  • Webinar

As part of a system developed by the U.S. Geological Survey, ShakeLA will be released statewide in this quarter. The app alerts users when an earthquake has been detected, usually a few seconds before shaking begins. This technology is an exciting and frankly important advancement, but to be effective, it must be utilized correctly. How can we harness the power of earthquake early warning systems in order to increase the safety of our schools?

CAL-ISBOA and Joffe Emergency Services have partnered to address that question, with assistance from experts at the Cal-Tech Seismology Lab and Earthquake Early Warning Systems. We’ll discuss how schools have access to an exclusive version of ShakeAlert that can distribute a message to their community when the warning signs of an earthquake are detected. Join us for a webinar on January 29th at 10AM PST to learn more about how to activate your own early warning system, and increase your school’s emergency preparedness.
