Classroom Teacher Assistant

    Clairbourn School is hiring a Preschool or Kindergarten Teacher Assistant. This is a non-exempt hourly position that begins in late August and ends in mid-June, approximately 40 weeks.  


    Requirements and Qualifications:

    • At least 18 years of age
    • Competent to provide the services necessary to meet the individual needs of children in care
    • In good health and physically and mentally capable of performing assigned tasks
    • Documentation of a health screening and proof of required immunizations (Preschool only)
    • Test for tuberculosis not more than one year prior to or seven days after employment
    • Documentation of a Department of Justice criminal record clearance or exemption as required by law
    • Completion of 12 or more semester units or equivalent quarter units in early childhood education or child development (Preschool only)


    • Actively support and assist the classroom teacher by providing help with classroom management, supervision, and instruction of the children enrolled in the program
    • Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children, co-workers, and parents
    • Report directly to the teacher to which he/she is assigned
    • Prepare materials as directed by the teacher
    • Assume primary responsibility for cleanup of all classroom and play yard activities
    • Assist teacher with curriculum activities as directed
    • Interact frequently with the children while respecting individual differences and encouraging developmentally appropriate independence, and pro-social behavior
    • Actively supervise the children during school activities giving special attention to safety concerns 
    • Actively engage in documentation of individual children’s experiences as directed by the classroom teacher
    • Use positive techniques for guidance and redirection of children
    • Prepare yard equipment and set out snacks, lunches and sleeping mats
    • Assume responsibility for all laundering and cleaning of the room, sink, counters, and refrigerator
    • Present a positive, supportive, and professional image to parents and other staff members, including dress, demeanor, and communication
    • Work cooperatively with all staff members to maintain a quality program
    • Follow NAEYC’s ‘Code of Ethical Conduct’ 
    • Support the philosophy of the school 
    • Develop and maintain appropriate and positive relationships with children, colleagues, and families

    Compensation / Benefits:

    Wage is $20 an hour with a generous benefit package including health, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, and retirement benefits.
