    Chief Business Officer

    Don Bosco Technical Institute, a qualified 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is seeking a Chief Business Officer. Bosco Tech is an all-male Catholic high school guided by the Salesian educational system of St. John Bosco, combining a rigorous college-preparatory program with a technology focused education.

    The Chief Business Officer will provide leadership and management of all business functions of the school, reporting to the Head of School and the Vice President.   

    Key Responsibilities:

    Supervises all accounting, personnel and business staff and functions. Evaluates assigned employees periodically. Observes, monitors, provides training for, counsels, advises and disciplines the Finance Department staff, and periodically evaluates their job performance.

    Oversees planning, organizing and administering the accounting functions that include revenue, expenditures, payroll, working capital, endowments and grants accounting, as well as booster funds and other designated or restricted fund accounting.

    Plans, organizes and administers the accounting and budgetary operations.

    Develops budget, accurately projects revenue and expenditures; manages finances within Board policy and goals, priorities and objectives.

    Prepares and assists the Vice President and Head of School in presenting information to the public and Board on financial operations of the school. Prepares appropriate reports as directed by the Head of School and Finance Committee. Prepares a wide variety of activity summaries and fiscal reports.

    Directs or conducts the preparation of periodic Federal, State, and local reports and statements, including tax returns.

    Develops and maintains sound bookkeeping and reporting practices.

    Works cooperatively with the Head of School, Vice President, Principal and department heads.

    Establishes and monitors internal financial controls.

    Maintains documents and records to properly administer grant funded projects, endowments and restricted donations or other funding.

    Oversees all school purchasing, financial investments, banking activities, payroll and benefits program under guidance from the school’s Finance Committee.

    Provides administrative support of the school’s financial aid program.

    Other duties may be assigned as needed.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    Bachelor’s Degree in business, accounting, or related field is a minimum.  Extensive experience in school finance and business operations is preferred. Other training and certificates relating to the business education field may also be considered.

    Must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license.

    Reads, speaks, writes and understands English well. Works independently with a minimum of guidance and supervision. Follows oral and written directions.

    Has and uses knowledge of principles and practices of fund accounting, auditing, bookkeeping, and budgeting, and has and uses knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws, rules and regulations governing accountability of funds in non-profit organizations or public agencies.

    Uses knowledge of modern office methods, procedures, and equipment. Experience with Blackbaud financial software or similar fund accounting software may be considered.

    Maintains positive human relationships, consistent with the school’s Salesian education principles. Deals effectively with staff, parents, students, administration, booster and alumni organizations, community and Board of Trustees. Exercises discretion, tact, and confidentiality.
