    Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy (FSHA) is a Catholic, Dominican, independent, college-preparatory day and boarding school whose mission is to educate young women for a life of faith, integrity and truth. We are currently seeking an experienced Director of Finance and Operations (DFO) to be the steward of all funds of the school. He/she will be responsible to the Board of Directors and reports directly to the President. The DFO performs his/her duties according to federal and state laws, generally accepted accounting principles and the policies of the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose of FSHA.

    The DFO leads the Finance department and supervises the Controller (who supervises a staff of three). In addition, the DFO has oversight responsibility of operations, including the food program and facilities, with the Food Director and Director of Facilities and Security reporting directly to this position. Supervisory responsibilities are full scope including recruiting, hiring, training, staff development, team building, evaluating, counseling and terminating.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • ACCOUNTING OPERATIONS – Oversees all accounting operations including the management of Controller.  Operational responsibilities include accounts payable, student billing, cash receipts, student banking, payroll, employee contract administration and other accounting related matters.
    • BUDGET – Oversees the  annual budget, coordinates budget management and accountability, reports budget status and other financial information to Academy management and the Board of Directors and committees necessary to assess the financial strength of the Academy
    • FINANCIAL PLANNING – In coordination with the appropriate parties, develops strategies for long term financial planning & sustainability, integrated with the strategic planning process. Generate reports and presentations to executive management and the board.
    • INVESTMENTS – In coordination with investment advisors and Controller, oversees cash flow and investments to ensure adequate returns and risk profiles.
    • FINANCIAL AID – Manages the financial aid communication, application processing and administrator to the Financial Aid committee.
    • AUDIT & RISK MANAGEMENT – Coordinates the annual audit, identification and oversight of the adequacy of internal controls for the Academy, policies and procedures, management of insurance contracts, legal matters and general compliance with laws and regulations.
    • FACILITIES OVERSIGHT – In coordination with the Director of Facilities and Security, oversees the management of facilities, including the master plan.  The master plan includes a 10+ year campus modernization plan.
    • FOOD PROGRAM – In coordination with the Food Director, oversee the management of the food program which serves the day and boarding program (all meals), catering and employee lunch program.
    • BOARD & COMMITTEE SUPPORT – Presents operating budget and other financial information to Academy Administration and to the Finance Committee.  Staff Lead on the Finance, Financial Aid and Master Plan Committees to the Board.  Attends Board of Directors annual retreat.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related discipline is required. 
    • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in the management of fiscal operations and experience sufficient to successfully performing the essential duties of the job.

    Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

    ·         MICROSOFT OFFICE – Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook functions.

    ·         GENERAL LEDGER – Strong working knowledge of window based GL and reporting software packages such as Blackbaud, Great Plains and Peachtree.  Exposure to Quickbooks preferred.

    ·         ACCOUNTING KNOWLEDGE – Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial statement review and analysis, reconciliation skills, debit and credit accounting and ability to pass bookkeeping quiz.

    ·         TECHNOLOGY – Strong ability to apply technology solutions and make recommendations for use of technology to improve individual or small work group efficiency and effectiveness.

    ·         PROBLEM SOLVING & ANALYSIS – Strong ability to identify problems, conduct appropriate analysis and reach effective solutions commensurate with level of responsibility.

    ·         OFFICE ADMINISTRATION – Strong ability to process paperwork timely, maintain an effective filing system, alphabetic filing, etc.
