    Job Summary

    The Athletics Trainer will be responsible for assisting in the administration and supervision of Carondelet’s comprehensive sports medicine program. This program includes prevention, recognition, management and rehabilitation of athletic injuries that result from athletic activity and event coverage for all Carondelet High School athletics contests. The Athletics Trainer will be assigned one or two teams seasonally - fall, winter and spring. There will also be rotational assignments for particular sports camps taking place during the summer.  The Athletics Trainer(s) are also responsible for supervising and maintaining the athletics training rooms at the Carondelet Athletics Complex and the Winton Drive campus.

    Essential Responsibilities

           Foster a community spirit consistent with the Carondelet Mission and Core Values among coaches, athletes, and parents, assuring respect for the uniqueness of the individual athlete and development of the whole person by demanding good sportsmanship, positive coaching practices, effective communication with all constituents, and establishing and fostering good relationships with athletes, parents, faculty/staff, and coaches

           Demonstrate an ability to perform the following functions regarding athletic injuries: prevention, assessment, treatment, (including first aid) and rehabilitation as set forth by the NATA Board of Certification

           Provide home game coverage for various Carondelet athletics events at all levels of play. In the event that there is a home game conflict, coordinate home game coverage with Head Athletics Trainer and/or third party agency

           Provide practice coverage for all Carondelet varsity athletics teams as assigned. If/when practice times conflict, work with Head Athletics Trainer and Director of Athletics to determine coverage for the team that is the highest risk

           The Athletics Trainer will maintain open communications with all athletes, coaches and parents/guardians, faculty and administration

           Will work with Head Athletics Trainer and Director of Operations to ensure that all Carondelet High School coaches are CPR and First Aid certified and coordinate CPR and First Aid opportunities for coaches

           Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development through continuing education

           Refer to licensed physicians and/or physical therapist when needed

           Practice school-wide concussion protocol, including implementation of ImPACT baseline testing for 9th and 11th grade students

            Coordinate and communicate any student having a concussion with parents, administrators, counselors, teachers and coaches

            Assure that the Carondelet High School Concussion Policy is being followed with the Return to Learn and Return to Play protocols outlined in the school concussion policy

           In partnership with the Kinesiology department, supervise students in the advanced sports medicine internship program

           Determine whether environmental conditions are safe for athletic activity and communicate plan of action to coaches and administrators

    Administrative Responsibilities

           Working with our Head Athletics Trainer and software, collect and file physical examination forms signed by physicians due at the beginning of each school year

           Work collaboratively with the Kinesiology Department to coordinate shared facilities

           Verify that parents have signed the appropriate electronic forms in case of emergency situations

           Supervise the locker room facility while on the Carondelet High School campus

           Collect and file immunization forms for new students

           Coordinate the secondary insurance for students who have been injured through a Carondelet activity

           Oversee and execute athletics registration for each season of sport, which includes medically clearing each athlete and processing registration paperwork

           Create Emergency Action Plans for each facility and an annual Emergency Action Plan for each athletic program

           Demonstrate proper taping, strapping, bracing, and fitting of athletic equipment

           Carry out all prescribed treatments and recommendations by the team/program/event physician

           Maintain NATA and CPR certifications, including CPR teacher training certification, in accordance with those respective institutions

           Responsible for coverage of all assigned sports games or matches, and related events under the supervision of the Athletics Director and/or Head Athletics Trainer

           Assess data reflective of student-athletes’ status and interpret the appropriate information

           Maintain all athletics training documentation in concise and legible manner, while compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)

           Maintain injury data information in proper order and submits school insurance forms in a timely manner

           Maintain and organize sports medicine offices and training rooms at the Winton Drive campus and the Carondelet Athletics Complex

           Maintain and order supplies as necessary as well as keep track of equipment logs

           Maintain and provide first aid kits given to teams during each season

           Attend pre-season introduction meetings in order to become recognized by parents, coaches and athletes

    Qualification Requirements

           Master's degree in Kinesiology, Human Biology, Health Sciences or Biomechanics preferred

           Bachelor’s degree from a university or college offering an accredited athletic training curriculum

           Successfully pass the Board of Certification (BOC) exam 

           Must maintain an active ATC credential

           Accredited programs include formal instruction in areas such as injury/illness prevention, first aid and emergency care, assessment of injury, human anatomy and physiology, therapeutic modalities and nutrition.

           Minimum two years training experience in a highly competitive, high school, college preparatory or university environment

           Must be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletics Training Education

           CPR/Standard First Aid Certification

           Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with coaches, students, co-workers, doctors, therapists, strength & conditioning coaches and administration

           Experience effectively working across sports and departments to achieve student centered results

           Ability to organize and manage many tasks at one time with a focus on deadlines and follow through

           Excellent leadership, political acumen, and diplomacy

           Strong organizational and communication skills

           Ability to get along with co-workers and other school community members

           Proficient in Microsoft Office
