Middle School Art Teacher – Academic Year 2019-2020

Menlo Middle School (grades 6-8) is seeking an enthusiastic educator with middle school teaching experience to teach Art. Middle School core subject teachers have four class sections with at least two class periods for preparation in a rotating block schedule.
The Middle School Art Teacher will be responsible for the following:
· Teaching the following classes:
· Intro to Art Class – 6th grade
· Painting & Drawing Class – 7th& 8th grades
· Sculpture Class – 7th& 8th grades
· Photography & Digital Arts Class – 7th& 8th grades
· Act as Yearbook Advisor and working with students to create the middle school yearbook
· Selecting and displaying student artwork throughout the middle school campus
· Presenting student artwork at the end of the semester’s Creative Arts Assembly
All Middle School teachers participate in an extracurricular activity and also serve as advisors for a group of 10-11 students. There are at least two class periods for preparation in a rotating block schedule. Teachers meet regularly with both grade-level teams and the middle school Creative Arts department to discuss curriculum, pedagogy, student progress, and special initiatives. The Visual Arts program supports the development of students’ technical art skills while also building critical thinking skills and self-reflection. Guided by the elements and principles of design, students work to hone their skills and develop their individual style and unique voice for creative expression.
We look for teachers who:
· Design learning experiences, create assessments, and evaluate student performance in a standards-based system, using a set of established core competencies
· Facilitate a dynamic and inspiring classroom, using a wide variety of creative and learner-centered teaching methods
· Support the organizational, academic, and emotional needs of middle schoolers through a genuine love of middle school students
· Differentiate classroom materials and presentations as needed to allow for learning differences among students
· Contribute to the school community by actively participating in extracurricular activities, faculty committees, and school initiatives
· Show a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity
· Are comfortable with technology and its applications in the classroom, including the use of MacBooks, PowerSchool Learning, and Google tools
· Manage frequent and ongoing verbal and written communications with students, parents and colleagues
· Work collaboratively with other faculty members towards a common goal through active listening, sharing, and reflecting
· Commit to his or her own professional growth and reflection
· Model high ethical and moral standards
· Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
· At least three years of Middle School teaching experience
· A broad knowledge of and experience with current best practices in curriculum and instruction, especially standards-based learning
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
· The job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment, but there may be possible exposure to childhood diseases and illnesses
· Exposure to heated/air conditioned and ventilated facilities with average interior dust with occasional exposure to outdoor elements
· Exposure to art materials and substances
· Exposure to a normal school environment that is usually quiet but sometimes noisy

· Ability to sit, stand, move, communicate, manipulate art tools, speak, hear and read during the course of normal activities
· Able to use computers and other tools
· Able to move items weighing up to 10 pounds

· In-person attendance necessary to provide an effective level of performance during regular school hours
