Reports To: Director of Finance & Operations
Position Purpose: The role of the accounting manager is an integral part of the business office responsible for coordinating the preparation of financial reports, such as income statements, balance sheets, and analyses of historical and future income and expenses, in addition to other special reports that may be needed. The accounting manager also oversees the functions of accounting, audit, and budgeting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
General Accounting and Financial Reporting
• Responsible for managing the accounting department, ensuring accurate and timely financial information
• Prepare monthly financial statements, including variance analyses
• Supervise student billing and general accounting operations
• Review account reconciliations on a monthly basis
• Provide support in the hiring, training of accounting department staff
• Ensure timely, accurate payment of debt service and swap settlement
• Assist the Director of Finance & Operations in the preparation and monitoring of departmental budgets and forecasts working with other administrators and department heads concerning budget performance
• Communicate accounting policies to affected employees and ensure compliance with such policies
• Supervise all incoming cash receipts and deposits
• Maintain daily cash balances and review reports from bank daily
• Provide weekly cash reports to Director of Finance & Operations
• Take lead position on preparation of schedules and work papers for annual audit
• Take lead position on Form 990 preparation.
• Maintain permanent office files for all audit schedules prepared by school
Surveys and Peer Reporting
• Prepare all periodic surveys and reports for the school’s trade organizations (e.g. NAIS, CAIS, NBOA and Cal-ISBOA)
• Prepare other similar data as requested
• Other miscellaneous tasks as assigned in support of the Director of Finance & Operations.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting
• Minimum 5–7 years of experience in non-profit accounting, including managerial experience in a similar role; independent school experience a plus
• Working knowledge of non-profit accounting is essential

• Regularly sit, talk, run, move equipment, hear, and visually interact with students
• Be able to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs

• Work in a traditional, climate-controlled office environment and outside in both hot and cold climates
