    Position Summary:

    The Middle School English and Social Studies Teacher at Yew Chung International School plays a vital role in delivering quality education aligned with the school's philosophy and objectives. This position focuses on English literacy instruction for 5th to 8th graders and social studies instruction, fostering a rich learning environment conducive to academic growth and holistic development.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Instructional Management:

    - Develop and implement comprehensive English literacy instruction for 5th to 8th-grade students, encompassing reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.

    - Design engaging lessons that promote critical thinking, creativity, and effective communication within the context of English language arts.

    - Incorporate a variety of teaching strategies and resources to accommodate diverse learning needs and styles.

    - Foster a deep understanding of social studies topics through inquiry-based instruction, discussions, and projects.

    - Integrate relevant literature, primary sources, and multimedia resources to enhance students' appreciation and comprehension of historical and cultural concepts.

    - Provide differentiated instruction and support to ensure all students achieve academic success.

    - Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.

    - Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, instructional goals, and assessment practices.

    -Teach an elective class with a literacy focus, such as yearbook, creative writing, leadership, etc.


    Student Management:

    - Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation, respect, and collaboration.

    - Establish clear expectations for behavior and academic performance, reinforcing positive habits and addressing challenges promptly.

    - Cultivate a love for learning and a growth mindset among students.

    - Communicate regularly with students and families to share progress, concerns, and opportunities for growth.


    Administrative and Professional Responsibilities:

    - Develop and submit lesson plans, unit plans, and assessment materials in accordance with school guidelines.

    - Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance instructional effectiveness and stay abreast of current educational practices.

    - Engage in collaborative planning sessions, department meetings, and school-wide initiatives.

    - Contribute to the development and implementation of school improvement initiatives related to English literacy and social studies instruction.

    - Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and other relevant data.

    - Adhere to school policies, procedures, and professional standards.


    Other Responsibilities:

    - Support the mission and values of Yew Chung International School.

    - Serve as a positive role model for students, demonstrating integrity, professionalism, and a passion for teaching and learning.

    - Participate in school events, extracurricular activities, and community outreach efforts as needed.

    - Fulfill additional duties as assigned by school administration.


    Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge Requirements:

    - Excellent command of the English language, including proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

    - Strong content knowledge and pedagogical expertise in English language arts and social studies.

    - Ability to create engaging and rigorous instructional materials and assessments.

    - Effective classroom management skills and the ability to establish a positive learning environment.

    - Collaborative mindset and willingness to work as part of a team.

    - Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development.


    Education and Experience Requirements:

    - Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Social Studies, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

    - Valid teaching credential or licensure.

    - Experience teaching English language arts and/or social studies at the middle school level preferred.


    Certificates, Licenses, Clearances, Testing, and/or Bonding Required:

    - Eligibility to work in the United States.

    - Completion of background checks and health screenings.

    - CPR and pediatric first aid certification preferred.

    Job Type: Full-time


    Salary: $75,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
