Salary range: $65,000 - $115,000/year

Job Description

The sixth-grade lead math co-teacher will work collaboratively as part of the sixth-grade team to implement a dynamic match curriculum that embodies the mission of our school as an inclusive community of inquiry. The successful candidate will have experience developing and delivering curriculum through the lens of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. Candidates should be flexible, patient, nurturing, and collaborative. Candidates should also have experience with teaching whole group, small group, and individual instruction in math ideally at the sixth-grade or middle school level. Sixth grade math is offered at two levels-”Course 1” (sixth grade math) and “Course 2” (advanced sixth grade math, pre-algebra). Experience with Singapore Math is desirable. 

Responsibilities include:

• Teaching math to all three sections of sixth grade

• Collaborating with the 5th grade math teacher, administration and 6th grade math co-teacher to discuss best placement for students in either “Course 1” or “Course 2” math

• Collaborating with the math co-teacher to create, follow, develop and enhance a robust, inquiry-based math curriculum

• Adapting curriculum as needed to provide windows and mirrors for students

• Acting as the co-homeroom teacher for one sixth grade section

• Supporting the academic and social and emotional growth of students

• Following, developing and enhancing a robust SEL curriculum including facilitating council in the classroom (training provided by the school)

• Effective and proactive communication with families about the growth of their child

• Attend and participate in scheduled meetings and task force opportunities

• Acting as either elementary math resource coordinator (ordering math supplies for K-6 faculty) or as math enrichment teacher to 5th and 6th grade students facilitating once monthly before school or during lunch classes (these are optional for students)

• Attend field trips, including the 3-day overnight sixth-grade experiential education trip

• Proficiency with technology (Google Drive, Google Classroom, SmartBoards, PowerSchool, website creation, etc.), and comfort with integrating technology into daily lessons

Requirements and desired skills, knowledge, and abilities:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher

• Minimum of three years math teaching experience 

• Strong oral and written communication skills

• Patience and creativity when working collaboratively with a range of constituent groups, including students, families, faculty, staff, and administration from diverse backgrounds (religious, ethnic, socio-economic)

• Experience communicating and meeting with parents and providing detailed, data-based information about student growth in academics and behavior

• Experience teaching fundamental math as well as pre-algebra

• Experience developing math curriculum

• A sense of humor and joy for working with students in this age group
