History Teaching Apprentice and Long-term Substitute Teacher

    The Archer School for Girls is seeking a history teaching apprentice who will also serve as an Upper School History teacher for a long-term maternity substitute position.

    Apprentices get hands-on experience working alongside master faculty to develop a repertoire of future-facing educational practices. Ideal candidates have a growth-mindset, positive outlook, and a deep appreciation for the importance of working in a diverse and inclusive community. A passion for working with young people in a culture of teaching excellence is a must and proficiency in leading courageous conversations around identity is critical.

    The Apprentice Program includes:

    o   Pedagogical instruction on research-based practices

    o   Apprentice learning cohort

    The Archer School for Girls is an educational community that supports and challenges young women to discover their passions and realize their true potential. Serving 500 girls in grades 6-12, Archer’s joyful and ambitious learning environment is founded on the research about how girls learn best.

    This specific position involves working with a mentor teacher in the Middle School division as well as one in the Upper School division. Other responsibilities include:

    ·         teaching one section of middle school history for the 24-25 school year

    ·         teaching three sections of 9th grade history for the duration of the lead teacher’s maternity leave (October 2024 - approximately April 2025). The 9th grade course is called Understanding the Contemporary World. This course trains students in social science methods so that they can engage in political, social, and economic analysis of current global issues. Topics include Power, Politics, and Government; Gender and Sexuality; and the Environment and Challenges to the Planet.

    ·         assisting with Archer’s Artemis Center which fosters and supports student activism
