Viewpoint School is currently seeking an Assistant Teacher for TK trough Grade 5. The Assistant Teacher is responsible for assisting the lead teacher with the day-to-day operation of the classroom and including some instruction of students.
Primary Functions:
- Assists the lead teacher with a wide variety of tasks relating to the teaching-learning process for students in addition to providing nurturing care and attending to student's emotional and physical needs
- Assists with carrying out duties in accordance to specific School program policies, guidelines, and curriculum standards.
- Solves problems through expert judgment aligned with early childhood best practices
- Works with students in small groups and/or on an individual basis in the classroom to help instruct, reinforce, and follow-up on learning activities
- Assists in the preparation, modification, and implementation of lesson plans, instructional materials and learning aids as directed by the lead teacher, including scoring student reports and papers, and administering, monitoring and scoring of tests
- Observes students and assists in the supervision and modeling of appropriate student behavior through positive reinforcement techniques and implementation of lead teacher designed behavior management system
- Confers with lead teacher concerning student progress and may offer help and suggestions about programs, activities, and materials to meet individual student needs
- Performs clerical support duties, such as preparing and copying instructional materials; recording grades; preparing and maintaining student files and records as necessary, including confidential records; and distributing and collecting paper, supplies, and materials
- Assists students in the operation of a variety of instructional aids, media, and computer and software programs
- Provides support to the lead teacher by setting up work areas, displays, and exhibits, operating movies and other audio-visual equipment
- Assumes responsibility for the classroom in the absence of the teacher
- Escorts students to enrichment classes, after-school programs, supervises lunch and break times, and other activities as needed.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service training programs as assigned
- Plans or participates in planning and implementing parent meetings and activities, including Parent Night
- Cooperates with all colleagues in the division and the school as needed in planning, supervision, and implementation of the overall program
- Works effectively with colleagues
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:
- Bachelors Degree preferred
- Experience working with children
Compensation: $22.00 per hour
