    Moreau Catholic High School, a coeducational high school in the Holy Cross tradition, is currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Band Director.   

    Founded in 1965 under the sponsorship of the Congregation of Holy Cross, Moreau Catholic High School emphasizes college-preparatory excellence in all programs designed to facilitate the informative, formative, and transformative needs of the individual student. Located approximately 25 miles southeast of San Francisco, in Hayward, California, the school is accredited by the Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). With 792 students, the co-educational student body reflects the rich ethnic and cultural diversity of the Bay Area, and the school has enjoyed a 99% collegiate matriculation. Our graduating seniors have been accepted into 1,000+ universities and colleges yearly, and have garnered, on average, between $11-14 million in scholarships and grants. 

    Position Description:

    The Band Director will lead the school’s bands, several of which have performed in Japan, Hawaii, Canada, New Orleans, and Orlando.  The Band Director will instruct from a comprehensive list of instrumental music courses to include:  Instrumental Music • Symphonic Band • String Orchestra • Honors Wind Ensemble • Honors String Orchestra • Jazz Ensemble • Honors Jazz Ensemble

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities (to include but not limited to):   

    • Under the direction of school administration, plan, organize, and teach band and music at the high school level. 

    • Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of the policies, guidelines, and procedures pertaining to the school’s instrumental music programs. 

    • Implement and present lesson plans according to established curriculum standards and requirements

    • Serve as a resource concerning instrumental and general music instruction; instruct and train band students in musicianship and performance activities

    • Encourage students to develop individual musical skills to the greatest extent possible

    • Conduct instrumental music rehearsal and coach individuals concerning their parts

    • Position members within their instrumental group to achieve balance, dynamic, rhythm, tempo, and shading

    • Select music to suit performance requirements and to accommodate the talents and abilities of the instrumental groups

    Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:  

    The successful candidate will:

    • Possess a Bachelor’s degree and California Teaching Credential (or working towards one). 

    • Possess 3-5 years classroom teaching experience, preferably within an independent school

    • Maintain high standards of student performance, and engage students using a variety of pedagogical methods.

    • Demonstrate and promote the responsible use of technology as a learning tool.

    • Provide help for students outside of class time.

    • Have the ability to thrive in a team environment

    • Establish a learning environment where every student’s right to learn is respected.

    Annual compensation based on Moreau’s Teacher Salary Scale:  $61,750 - $116,850
