    Position summary: The primary role of the Controller is to develop reliable and accurate financial reporting. A reflective and detailed management accountant who leads with integrityand serves the community in a manner that is in alignment with the beliefs and core values of the school and its leadership.   

    Essential Qualifications/Minimum Requirements 

    • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field  

    • Work experience at an independent school is required 

    • Knowledgeable of various accounting treatments and current trends and practices 

    • Must be highly proficient in QuickBooks and other accounting systems 

    • Team oriented, excellent work ethic; must be able to work effectively with other departments 

    • Proficient in the use of technology and software; time management; meets deadlines 

    • Able to manage multiple projects and requests seamlessly and with accuracy 

    • Must be thorough and adept at asking probing questions that lead to problem solving 

    Essential Functions/Job Duties 

    • Reconciles payroll, all bank accounts, and investment accounts on a semi-monthly, monthly or quarterly basis 

    • Develops and maintains a consistent and dependable monthly/quarterly/annual close 

    • Oversees all cash receipts from school events, parents, students, etc., weekly bank deposits 

    • Initiates and records all domestic and international wire transfers 

    • Reviews profit and loss, budget to actuals, and balance sheet reports for errors or misstatements on a regular basis 

    • Works with the revenue manager on student billing tracking any delinquent or missing tuition or enrolment payments 

    • Performs quarterly reconciliations with development regarding endowments, contributions and pledges 

    • Performs first draft budget variance analysis on a monthly and quarterly basis 

    • Ensures 1099 vendors are paid and issued tax forms each year end 

    • Maintains accounting policies and procedures to ensure safeguarding of the school’s assets 

    • Researches discrepancies within the accounting system and resolves them  

    Other assigned tasks 

    • Point on all external audits, worker’s comp audits, etc. 

    • Provides administrative assistance as needed in processing student contracts 

    • Research projects may be assigned on occasion; attend department meetings  

    • Other duties as assigned by the Head of School 

    Exempt position, annual salary ranges from $130,000-$140,000. Full benefits package to include the following:
