Job Description
The Long-Term Substitute 6th Grade Science Teacher will oversee the development and delivery of the 6th grade Science curriculum, focused on metric measurements and Earth as a system. The teacher will partner with other Science teachers to support a comprehensive, effective, and cohesive 6-8th grade Science curriculum. This teacher will teach three, 75 minute science classes that occur every other day. The teacher will also sub for other classroom teachers on non-science teaching days as needed.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with middle school students and appreciate the opportunity to work with this age-group that is experiencing lots of transitions in three short years. They will also be a strong collaborator with other teachers and community members, have a strong commitment to meeting the learning needs of each student, a teaching style that supports differentiated instruction, and an interest in building a community.
As a long-term substitute teacher in the Middle School, this individual will also serve as a co-advisor, and participate in various student and community activities. Additional responsibilities include active involvement in collaborative teacher meetings and supervisory duties.
Essential Requirements
∙ Bachelor’s degree in Science or related field
∙ Three to five years’ classroom teaching experience in Science, especially at the middle school level
∙ Natural rapport with children and strong classroom management skills
∙ Excellent written and oral communication skills
Desired Qualifications and Traits
∙ Masters’ Degree in specific subject area, Masters in Education, or teaching credential
∙ Experience with project-based learning and interdisciplinary teaching
∙ A growth mindset and flexibility to adapt
Schedule and Hours
This is a substitute/leave replacement position beginning mid-September through the end of November 2024. Regular hours are 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays).
Pay Scale:
The anticipated salary range the school reasonably expects to pay candidates for the full-time position of Long-Term Substitute Science Teacher $72,227 to $108,627, depending on factors such as experience and education.
