DIRECTOR OF FACILITIES
Position Overview:
The Director of Facilities is responsible for the overall operation and maintenance of the school’s physical plant, including buildings, grounds, athletic fields, equipment, and vehicles. Develops and manages maintenance and custodial programs to create a hospitable learning environment, present an exemplary appearance for the school, and preserve the school’s investment. Supervises maintenance, custodial, event set up, and purchasing activities, as well as oversees service and repair contractors. Maintains records and prepares reports as necessary to ensure compliance with facilities-related regulations.
Salary: $130,000 - $140,000
About San Francisco University High School (UHS):
UHS is a coeducational college-preparatory independent day school with 480 students in grades 9-12. UHS is located in the Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco, with four campus buildings, a fifth campus building under construction, athletic facilities, and a Head of School house. Founded in 1975, the school’s mission includes challenging each individual to live a life of integrity, inquiry, and purpose larger than the self.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Addresses repair and maintenance needs identified via staff requests and regular inspection of the premises, utilizing maintenance team or outside services as necessary
- Manages the operation and maintenance of all mechanical systems, including boilers, air handlers, and elevators; assures strict adherence to service, inspection, and permit schedules
- Establishes standards and priorities for custodial services, and oversees performance of custodial staff
- Monitors daily activity schedule for meetings, events, and other activities to arrange for special room set-up, refreshments, and other needs
- Maintains vans for athletic and academic department use
- Oversees procurement of parts, materials, and supplies to support maintenance, custodial, and other school needs
- Prepares, prioritizes, and manages summer project and longer-term capital project plan, working with senior school leadership
- Maintains facilities and maintenance management system
- Provides facilities-related input to support a new campus building under construction
- Manages programs, maintenance logs, and records related to environmental regulations
Qualifications
- Customer service-oriented mindset, working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and visitors
- Conveys positive attitude, promotes a “can do” atmosphere, and maintains enthusiasm
- Constructive team-building approach to supervising facilities team
- Confident and calm manner in working with constituents
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Strong organizational and project planning skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Takes responsibility and follows through on commitments
- Proficiency in facilities and maintenance management software solutions, as well as spreadsheet preparation
- Occasionally, lift weight and exert force up to 50 pounds
- Minimum 2 years of college courses; bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred
- Seven+ years of work experience involving facilities and equipment maintenance responsibilities in an academic, business, or commercial setting
