    Reports to:      2-8 Principal

    Position Overview

    The Permanent Substitute / Floating TA position guarantees continuity in the classroom in case of teacher absences. The  Permanent Substitute will help to ensure that teacher absences do not negatively impact the learning process of EBI students.

    The substitute plans are to be implemented fully, and the attendance sheet and any student work is turned in to the Administrative Assistant after the substitution.

    General Responsibilities

    • Establish, develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff, parents and students.

    • Increase productivity and effectiveness of the Middle School team through support in all matters related to day-to-day activity, both instructional and logistical.

    • Provide substitution coverage in grade levels 2-8, primarily within the Middle School.

    • Carry out supervision duties.

    • Support with administrative duties in the office or around campus.

    Specific Areas of Responsibility

    1. Actively participate as a member of the Middle School faculty, attending all meetings and fulfilling all responsibilities assigned to Middle School teachers as relevant to the role.

    2. Substitute classes during all assigned lessons, with the understanding that some days will be busier than others.

    3. Fulfill an ample supervision duty schedule, including morning drop-off, recess, lunch, and afternoon pick-up.

    4. Provide support to the Middle School teachers to ensure a safe and stimulating learning environment.

    5. Support teachers and students with individual and/or group learning activities and assignments in the regular classroom or outside of class.

    6. Follow assigned substitute plans to guarantee continuity of learning in the absence of the classroom teacher.

    7. Establish a classroom culture of positive learning expectation standards for all students. 

    8. Maintain accurate attendance records for classes being substituted

    9. Upon request, especially for longterm substitutions, plan classes, assess student work, update Managebac, communicate with families, and other duties of the absent teacher.

    10. Attend class field trips, upon request.

    11. Maintain order and discipline, inside and outside the classroom, using best practices of classroom management and student behavior management.

    12. Assist in preparing and maintaining the Middle School learning environment (tidying up, collecting and producing materials, overseeing bulletin boards, the announcement board, etc).

    13. Work in Aventura outside the regular work schedule (optional).

    14. Other duties as assigned. 

    Qualifications and Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education or related field required. 

    • Minimum of three years experience in education 

    • Excellent writing, communication, and teamwork skills 

    • Must be organized and detail-oriented and exhibit technical/computer skills as required for job performance 

    • Fluency in English and Spanish is required.

    EBI  uses a salary scale that is based on education and years of experience and ranges from $29.24 to $38.58 per hour.
