    Yard Staff Team Member Job Description


    Founded in 1958, Pilgrim School is a Pre-K through 12 co-educational day and boarding school in the Wilshire Center neighborhood of Los Angeles.  With beautiful play spaces around our campus, the Yard Staff are valued members of our school community and play an important part in the development of our wonderful students.

    Position Reports to: Play Coordinator and the Elementary Director 

    We seek a skilled yard team member to join our play squad.  This individual should have experience in a school or a comparable setting. The position is for twelve months,  full time (40 hours/week), beginning in August 2024, and the salary range is $17.50-$23 per hour.   We need a team member who is flexible and innovative in working collaboratively to provide care to students and communicate with parents, teachers, administrators as well as students. The job includes the following duties and personal qualities:


    Professional Qualifications:

    • Experience working with children ages 5 to 14.

    • Loves to play and be outside every day.

    • Fluent in English language

    • Strong communication skills for speaking with students, parents and colleagues

    • Pilgrim employees rely on technology for records and communication; all are expected to embrace technology and have competency in computer use for basic office applications.

    Job Duties: 

    • Build positive, long-lasting relationships with children on campus who see you as a role-model and leader.

    • Provide care, supervision and fun during school play times, requested events,  and summer camp programs every day.

    • Oversee lunch program and transition from lunch or recess play time back to class each day.

    • Oversee and support morning drop off and afternoon pick up procedures on a daily basis.

    • Oversee and organize school-wide Lost and Found materials.

    • Assist in covering classes during inclement weather schedules or special curriculum day schedules.

    • Assist in offsite Outdoor Education Learning Day activities.

    • Assist in all after-school programs, including Homework Club and enrichment classes.

    • Be flexible in schedule and daily work duties; they change regularly pending student needs.

    • Work with a team of play experts making outside time fun for kids of all ages.

    • Model excellent communication for students and help them resolve conflicts as they occur.

    • Understand and uphold school wide safety practices to keep students safe at play.

    • Model kindness, patience, and enthusiasm for your work each day.

    • Communicate with Play Team Coordinator about safety, social emotional, or other concerns you either witnessed or were told about. 

    • Communicate with school nurse on  minor health issues that occur on a daily basis (e.g. scrapes, cuts, bumped heads, headaches, vomiting, potty accidents)

    • Communicate with parents about student concerns or successes as needed.

    • Work with school safety and emergency team to conduct and review drills on campus (e.g. fire, earthquake, lockdown)

    • Work on designated weekends as needed.  School calendar will identify these dates for advanced planning.

    • Ability to engage in physical activity with team members and students without limitation.

    • Ability to lift, carry, pull, or otherwise move objects between 10 and 20 pounds.
