Viewpoint School is currently seeking a part-time Stage Manager. The Stage Manager provide hands-on coordination and support for Viewpoint Theatre productions.
Basic Purpose:
Under the direction of the Director of Support Services and Theatre & Dance Department Chair, responsible for assuring that the School’s community needs and expectations for Performing Arts support are met. Works with the production team to organize and manage rehearsals, and serves as liaison between the Director of Support Services, Production Director, Production staff, and students to ensure daily rehearsal notes are documented and disseminated. Organize and mentor students on the student stage crew. Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Primary Functions: Stage Manager
- Attends production meetings and paper tech meetings for each production.
- Attends daily after-school rehearsals (as needed by the Production Director), documenting Director blocking notes, sound/light cues, script changes, and scene change notes in script for use in future rehearsals and performances.
- Maintains daily rehearsal reports that include attendance, general notes, script changes, and notes for specific departments: costuming, scenic, lighting, audio, and props. E-mail and share google doc rehearsal reports to the production team daily.
- For rehearsals, the Stage Manager will mark out the dimensions of the set on the floor of the rehearsal space and in collaboration with the Production Director and staff to ensure rehearsal props and furnishings are available for the actors (when possible). Arrives prior to the start of rehearsal to set the rehearsal space with the needed props, furniture, and other items. At the end of rehearsal, put items away and clear the rehearsal space for the next activity.
- Works with student Assistant Stage Manager during rehearsals and performances, ensuring the student Assistant Stage Manager is fulfilling the goals and expectations outlined in the ASM contract. Communicates directly with the Production Director and Faculty Stage Manager regarding student progress for grading purposes
- Works with Theatre Production Manager to coordinate, organize, and mentor the student stage crew during tech/dress rehearsals and performances.
- Calling cues and actors' entrances during performance as needed.
- Inspects all setup on a routine basis for safety. Immediately reports any safety violations or concerns to the Director of Support Services.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:
- Previous experience as a theater stage manager or assistant stage manager.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with employees and students.
- Courteous manner in dealing with the public. Maintain a professional distance between students and families.
- Ability to maintain efficiency, organization, and flexibility in a fast paced multitasked environment.
- Capable of working a flexible schedule with the ability to work early mornings, nights, and weekends as needed. Available to work 2:30 - 6:30 p.m. each week day.
- Time management skills.
- Proficient in Google Docs, knowledge of Cue Lab a plus.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Ability to stand for long periods for time
- Be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Work at desk and computer screen for extended periods of time
- Works in a high stress environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
- Position will require weekend and evening work
- Meetings and events at different locations around 40 acre campus
Compensation: $30 per hour
