    Job Description and Desired Qualifications

    The School Counselor/Health Educator will work as a member of a diverse school community and its cohesive team to support the social and emotional well-being of the students at Redwood Day. We are searching for a passionate and experienced counselor who will assist students in their personal, social, emotional, and academic development.

    Additional responsibilities include active involvement in collaborative divisional meetings, supervisory duties, supporting admissions, participation in a week-long Middle School overnight outdoor education trip, and participation in various student and community activities.

     

    Responsibilities

            The School Counselor/Health Educator will have a strong commitment to getting to know each student, and the ability to build genuine relationships

            Provide a developmentally sensitive, comprehensive, and holistic health education curriculum to 6th-8th grade students, pushing into each grade level at defined points in the school year

          Collaborate with Division Directors, Learning Specialists, and Dean of Students to provide individual and group counseling to students as well as provide prevention and intervention services to meet the educational and social/emotional needs of students

          Guide, facilitate and differentiate social emotional development curriculum, per age or grade level as appropriate, for a diverse group of students. For example, lessons on friendship/peer relations, social skills, stress management and sensitive topics, including gender, sexuality, relationships, consent, and drugs and alcohol.  

            Utilize clinical knowledge and constructs to collaborate with teachers, parents, administrators, and outside professionals to establish developmentally appropriate strategies for supporting students academically, emotionally, socially, and behaviorally

            Participate in case management, assess therapeutic needs of individual students, consult with and refer families to any necessary counseling with off-campus mental health care professionals and community social service agencies

          Intervene and provide crisis management on an as-needed basis throughout the school year, including consultation, risk assessment, referral and follow-up   

          Plan and conduct school/community-wide presentations, events and discussions on a variety of relevant and sensitive topics 

          Lead professional development programs for faculty in areas related to student social-emotional development and safety, mental and physical health issues with an emphasis on equity, inclusion, and wellness

          Observe students in a variety of in-school settings to effectively collaborate with the Student Support Teams, teachers, and families regarding student development and progress 

          Interface as necessary with outside mental health resources as well as local and state agencies responsible for providing services to children in need

    Schedule and Hours

    This is a full time, exempt position and begins August 7, 2024.

     

    Essential Requirements

            Master’s degree in School Counseling or a related field

            Licensed LCSW or MFT is preferred

            Two to three years’ experience as a school counselor in an elementary/middle school setting

            Excellent record keeping/documentation skills and written and oral communication

            Strong collaboration experience

            Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion

            Experience in working with upper elementary and middle school aged students and leading/facilitating discussions around human development

            Culturally competent, responsive, and sensitive to diverse populations

            Candidate must have a natural rapport with children and love of working with the unique needs of upper elementary and middle school students

            Strong classroom management skills

    Pay Scale:

    Redwood Day offers highly competitive compensation and benefits. The anticipated salary range the school reasonably expects to pay candidates for the full-time position of School Counselor/Health Educator is $98,000 to $114,000 depending on experience and education.
