    Position Summary


    Position Purpose: Student Safety Staff is a full-time position with duties supporting the Dean of Students office in the areas of student supervision, safety, health & wellness, and logistics during the school day.


    Specific Expectations for P-8 Employees - ​​In addition to the essential job functions noted below the following duties and responsibilities are required as part of the P-8 faculty/staff workload: professional development and trainings, attendance of or participation in, mandatory meetings and/or events (Director's Days, Open Houses, accreditation meetings, etc.) are required as directed by your supervisor. All employees will be paid appropriately and according to current law. If staff are required to work outside of the regular work schedule, permission to work outside of the regular work schedule is required; non-exempt employees will receive overtime pay, as eligible.


    Essential Job Functions



    Provide care and supervision to children aged 3-14 during the day and afterschool.



    Demonstrate an ability to relate to children and adolescents in a positive manner and maintain order and discipline in a respectful and caring way.



    Conduct daily monitoring of students throughout the school day in hallways, restrooms, and common areas outside the classrooms to ensure compliance with safety protocols.



    Supervise daily recesses, lunches and other student activities.



    Provide logistical oversight for and supervision of student arrivals and departures. May include directing the flow of traffic, and other tasks as directed.



    When necessary, communicate with parents/guardians regarding school and traffic logistics.



    Provide dismissal support by organizing carpool lines, managing faculty on duty, with an emphasis on safety.



    Support necessary safety drills on campus (fire, earthquake, etc.).



    Report student compliance issues to the Deans of Students and Assistant Principal of Student Life, as needed.



    Be a general resource to students and faculty, and work effectively with and relate well to other school staff, parents and students.



    Comply with laws and regulations regarding confidentiality and privacy of information collected.



    Assist the Office Staff with light clerical work, as needed.



    Occasionally, chaperone after school activities, on evenings/weekends.



    Other duties as assigned.


    Qualifications



    A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools.



    High School Diploma required. College degree with emphasis on education preferred. ECE units are preferred.



    Enjoy working with children.



    Fluency in reading, writing and speaking in English; similar skills in Spanish preferred.



    Excellent verbal and written skills, as well as outstanding interpersonal skills.



    Ability to work well with students and colleagues; willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the SHS community.



    Obvious passion for providing a high standard of care for students.



    Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.



    Demonstrated excellent attendance, punctuality and professionalism.


    Physical Requirements and Work Environment



    Works in a highly charged environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.



    May work at a desk and computer.



    Must be able to travel safely and comfortably over a 64 acre campus.



    Tasks involve the ability to exert moderately heavy physical effort in the course of the day, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials weighing 20 to 50 pounds.



    Work outside in various weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold typical to the mid-Peninsula region of the Bay Area.
