(75% full-time)
Founded in 1889, Marlborough School is an independent girls college-preparatory school for grades 7 through 12 located in Los Angeles, California. Marlborough is the oldest independent girls’ school in the Southern California region. Central to Marlborough’s vision that Equity Leads Education is the belief in and passion for empowering young women to use their immense talents to better the world and become trailblazers in their own right. Bolstered by world-class faculty and staff, Marlborough students are challenged and inspired to work towards their own personal best and, in doing so, have an almost endless array of courses, extracurriculars, electives, and programs to spark their curiosity, deepen their compassion for one another, and lead lives of purpose.
OPPORTUNITY STATEMENT
Marlborough School seeks an engaged, highly organized, dynamic Middle and Upper School instructor to join our faculty for the 2024-2025 school year. This will be a temporary, 75 percent-time position to cover maternity leave in the World Languages Department primarily for grades 7 and 10. The specific courses will be in the beginner and advanced intermediate levels, and the teacher will work in close collaboration with the Department in order to ensure consistency between sections.
Marlborough’s World Languages Department expects its language learners to attain increasingly higher levels of proficiencyas measured by the national standards set forth by the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). The Marlborough French courses develop the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and include appropriate cultural, historical, and literary materials at all levels. In addition, the Department seeks to expose students to current events, culture, and identities in the French-speaking and Francophone world. To better facilitate these goals, Marlborough expects its World Languages faculty and students to use little or no English in class, even at the novice level.
Marlborough School's Vision and Mission Statements, emphasizing equity and purposeful learning, underscore the importance of a diverse faculty. This diversity is crucial for instilling confidence, nurturing leadership potential, and inspiring students to excel. The school aims to equip graduates with skills for global connections, emphasizing community values that extend beyond the classroom. Marlborough is dedicated to transforming its community, making equity a fundamental aspect of education. Recognizing their responsibility, the school emphasizes employing educators who exemplify teaching excellence and leadership, serving as role models through both example and pedagogy.
