The Middle School (grades 6-8) is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced educator to provide leave coverage teaching sixth grade English, starting on January 13, 2025 and continuing through the end of the academic year on June 7, 2025. The long-term substitute will have four class sections with at least two class periods for preparation in a rotating block schedule. Additionally, the substitute will have an extra curricular assignment and lunch/recess duty. The substitute will meet regularly with the grade-level team and the middle school English department to discuss curriculum, pedagogy, student progress, and special initiatives. The sixth grade English curriculum exposes students to expository and creative writing, reading workshop and vocabulary and grammar lessons.

Facilitate a dynamic and inspiring classroom, using a wide variety of creative and learner-centered teaching methods

Implement learning experiences and assessments and evaluate student performance in a standards-based system, using a set of established core competencies

Support the organizational, academic, and emotional needs of middle schoolers through a genuine love of middle school students

Differentiate classroom materials and presentations as needed to allow for learning differences among students

Show a commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging

Work with technology and its applications in the classroom, including the use of MacBooks, Canvas Learning Management System, and Google tools

Manage frequent and ongoing verbal and written communications with students, parents and colleagues, including writing report cards

Work collaboratively with other faculty members towards a common goal through active listening, sharing, and reflecting

Model high ethical and moral standards
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required

At least three years of experience teaching English, preferably in the middle school setting

A broad knowledge of and experience with current best practices in curriculum and instruction, especially standards-based learning

Ideally, familiarity with reading workshop, including guiding independent reading and book clubs

Pay range:
In the spirit of pay transparency we share the base salary range for this position for the 2024-2025 academic year. Our Faculty have a wide range of experience. We have teachers who are relatively new to the profession and those who have expertly taught for over 30 years. The full pay range, which encompasses all experience levels is $90,100 - $174,900. Within this broad range, we pay each Faculty member in accordance with what could be reasonably expected based on an individual's experience level. Base salary is exclusive of fringe benefits, retirement plan employer contributions or potential stipends (for eligible employees). Pay ranges at Menlo are reasonable estimates of what the School anticipates paying for a role but are not guaranteed. If hired at Menlo School, your final base salary will be determined by factors such as skills, education, experience, job level, part-time status and number of months of work per academic year. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity with our current employees as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the generous range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical for Menlo School in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
