    Position Title: Long-Term Substitute Music Teacher 

    FLSA Classification: 100% FTE exempt position 

    Reports To: Director of Lower School

    Position Purpose: Teach Music to K-8 School Students in an Independent Jewish Day School


    The Brandeis School of San Francisco has reimagined what is possible in an inclusive, future-focused Jewish day school, becoming an acknowledged leader in asserting the role of spirituality and ethics in educating the whole child. We welcome applicants who see a school environment that fosters challenging academics, student-centered learning, ethics and spirituality, and innovation. This position will begin December 2, 2024 - June 13, 2025.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


    • Plan and teach a challenging course of study of music in a developmentally appropriate manner, with an emphasis on differentiating instruction and using assessments effectively


    • Engage students in developing and producing music productions during the school year


    • Provide music and sound support for various school programs 


    • Create an inclusive classroom environment through regular class sessions, supportive exchanges with students, and clear expectations for community behavior


    • Collaborate with other faculty to develop curriculum, plan trips and special projects and solve problems as necessary


    • Teach lower school chorus one day a week (after school)


    • Teach middle school chorus one day a week 


    • Teach two middle school elective classes


    • Co-teach 4th-grade band


    • Work and communicate effectively with parents in formal and informal conferences and written reports 


    • Support and follow the School Policies and Procedures 


    • Be a positive and contributing member of the professional community


    • Other assigned duties


    Position Qualifications:


    • B.A. degree (in music or education preferred)


    • Strong music background required including working knowledge of National Content Standards for Music Education


    • Experience with choral music preferred


    • Familiarity with the Orff-Shulwerk Method (Full Orff Instrumentarium Available)


    • Familiarity with Kodaly welcomed but not required


    • Teaching credential preferred 


    • Minimum 3 years classroom teaching experience 


    • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse members of the school community


    • Demonstrate appropriate love and affection for children, have a ready smile and encouraging words


    • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written, with all constituents in a school environment


    Physical Qualifications:


    • Regularly sit, talk, move equipment, hear, interact visually and through movement with students 


    • Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs


    • Regularly use close and distance vision


    • Work at a desk and computer screen 


    • Turn, bend, reach and occasionally use a ladder


    • Work in a traditional climate controlled office environment and outside in typical Western (foggy) San Francisco weather 


    Details


    The school offers competitive compensation based on prior experience, education, and position requirements. The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $110,000 annually based on prior experience, education, and position requirements. The salary will be prorated based on the amount of time worked.
