    The Menlo School Library is seeking a qualified candidate for a full-time position as Librarian. The library serves 800 students in grades 6 through 12, along with teachers, staff, and parents. Students use the library during classes, free periods, as well as before and after school, making the library a central hub and busy destination throughout the day. The full-time Librarian will be one of two staff members working under the direction of the Head Librarian.  The full-time Librarian will work 10 months per year, between mid August-June. This position will be available in August 2025.

    Responsibilities:

    • Manage the circulation desk and all related duties

    • Provide readers’ advisory and reference assistance

    • Support students and faculty at all library service points

    • Provide research instruction (collaborating with teachers) as needed 

    • Support receiving and processing new materials, and all collection development efforts

    • Contribute to Menlo’s Advocacy Program by leading an advisory group of 10-12 Upper School students, participating in recurring meetings, activities, and support

    • Support parent volunteer training  

    Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with teenagers, balancing library uses with humor and empathy.

    • Proficient in Google Suite, library management systems (e.g., Alexandria), and research databases.

    • Exceptional collaboration with library stakeholders.

    • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and multitasking abilities.

    • Passion for reading and discussing teen-interest fiction and nonfiction.

    • A Master’s degree in library and information science or equivalent undergraduate studies with library work experience.

    • Previous school library experience or a strong willingness to learn new skills and tools.

    • Experience with teen programming, clubs, or activities is a plus.

    Pay range:


    In the spirit of pay transparency we share the base salary range for this position. The full pay range, which encompasses all experience levels is $90,000 - $115,000. Within this broad range, we pay in accordance with what could be reasonably expected based on an individual's experience level. Base salary is exclusive of fringe benefits, retirement plan employer contributions or potential stipends (for eligible employees). Pay ranges at Menlo are reasonable estimates of what the School anticipates paying for a role but are not guaranteed. If hired at Menlo School, your final base salary will be determined by factors such as skills, education, experience, job level, part-time status and number of months of work per academic year. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity with our current employees as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the generous range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical for Menlo School in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
