Salary Range: $71,622-$88,550

DESCRIPTION

Oakwood Elementary Campus seeks a collaborative and experienced educator to serve as a sixth-grade Humanities teacher in a departmentalized organizational structure.  This position involves teaching a combination of language arts and social studies, while fostering a love of reading, writing, and history. The ideal candidate will create an engaging, inclusive, student-centered learning environment supporting academic growth and social development.

REQUIREMENTS

·         Bachelor’s degree in English, Humanities, Teaching, or related subject.

·         Three to five years of experience teaching in an Elementary School or Middle School setting. Independent School experience preferred.

·         Experience teaching reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.

·         Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development in both subject matter and progressive educational methodology.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Design and deliver an interdisciplinary humanities curriculum integrating literature, writing, history, and social studies.

·         Develop engaging lesson plans that foster critical thinking, inquiry-based learning, and discussion.

·         Teach and assess writing skills, including expository, narrative, and analytical writing.

·         Introduce students to historical concepts, geography, and diverse cultural perspectives.

·         Incorporate diverse texts and perspectives to support equity and inclusion in the classroom.

·         Use various instructional strategies, including project-based learning, technology integration, and cooperative learning.

·         Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.

·         Create a positive, student-centered classroom culture that encourages curiosity, respect, and collaboration.

·         Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments, providing feedback that promotes growth.

·         Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues regarding student progress and classroom expectations.

·         Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives.

·         Serve as an advisor and mentor for students, supporting their academic and social-emotional development.

·         Coordinate and chaperone sixth-grade overnight trip.

·         Co-coordinate 6th-grade graduation. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must be able to do the following: stand for extended periods; sit for extended periods; bend and reach for filing and other job-related functions; climb up and down stairs; bend, stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull, push, and lift; reach both above and below shoulder height.  Specific visual abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Must be able to visually inspect work.  Manual dexterity to operate computer and other office equipment required.
