    Position Title: Music Director

    FLSA Classification: Part-time, Temporary

    Reports To: Director of Middle School

    Position Purpose: Musical Director, & Assist with Middle School Musical Production


    The Brandeis School of San Francisco has reimagined what is possible in an inclusive, future-focused Jewish day school, becoming an acknowledged leader in asserting the role of spirituality and ethics in educating the whole child. This position will begin August, 2025 - January 16, 2026.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


    • Responsible for the musical direction of an hour long show with somewhere between 9-12 musical numbers


    • Work closely with students: Engage and collaborate with middle school students, fostering a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment.


    • Assist with musical productions: Contribute to the planning, coordination, and execution of musical productions, drawing on past experience in similar settings.


    • Operate soundboard and technical equipment: Set up, manage, and troubleshoot sound equipment during rehearsals and performances to ensure high-quality audio output.


    • Manage large groups effectively: Supervise and provide leadership to large groups of middle school students, ensuring a safe, organized, and productive atmosphere during practices and performances.

    • Tuesdays


    • 8:25-9:30 - 5th/6th grade


    • 9:35-10:40 - 7th/8th grade


    • Thursdays


    • 1:00-2:05 - 5th/6th grade


    • 2:10-3:15 - 7th/8th grade


    • 3:30-5:00 - All hands rehearsals (September-December)


    Important Dates:


    Mandatory Rehearsals and Performances


    • Sunday, January 4th: 12:30-3:00


    • January 5-8 (Monday-Thursday): 2:30-5:15 pm


    • Sunday, January 11th Tech Rehearsal: 12:00-4:00 pm


    • Monday, January 12th: 2:30-5:15 pm (Full run through)


    • Tuesday, January 13th: 1:00-3:00 pm (Dress Rehearsal w/LS)


    • Wednesday, January 14th and Thursday, January 15th 5:30-8:30pm (Performances)


    • Friday, January 16th: 10:30 am-12:00 pm Encore Performance for MS



    Position Qualifications:


    • B.A. degree (in music or education preferred or related fields)


    • Teaching credential preferred


    • Experience with musical direction and large-scale productions


    • Proficiency accompanying soloists or music groups on the piano/keyboard (preferred not required).


    • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written, with all constituents in a school environment (students, parents, faculty, and staff)


    • Strong communication and organizational skills are required.


    • Flexibility in working across grade levels and with students at varying levels of artistic abilities


    • Demonstrated knowledge of the subject area and a strong background in curriculum and instruction, classroom management, and assessment


    • Have the ability to respond professionally under pressure in disciplinary and emergency situations


    • Have experience with conflict resolution and at solving interpersonal issues


    • Experience running sound cues in the sound booth.


    • Proficiency in Google Suite and Google Apps for Education


    Physical Qualifications:


    • Regularly sit, talk, move equipment, hear, interact visually and through movement with students


    • Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs


    • Regularly use close and distance vision


    • Work at a desk and computer screen


    • Turn, bend, reach and occasionally use a ladder


    • Work in a traditional climate controlled office environment and outside in typical Western (foggy) San Francisco weather


    Details


    The school offers competitive compensation based on prior experience, education, and position requirements. The compensation range for this position is $10,000 - $15,000 based on prior experience, education, and position requirements.
