Varsity & Middle School Basketball, Assistant Coaches
We seek dynamic and energetic assistant coaches for our Varsity & Middle School Girls and Boys Basketball Teams. These positions are vital for Pilgrim Athletics, as they wil support the development of Basketbal across multiple levels of our school. As the Varsity & Middle School Assistant Coach, you wil support the entire Basketbal program, including strategic planning, player development, and fostering a positive team culture. This is an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic individuals who are motivated to grow the success of our student-athletes both on and off the court. Core Duties and Responsibilities
● Support the strategic direction of the program across multiple school levels, assisting the Varsity and Middle School Head Coach
● Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive team environment
● Facilitate and lead engaging, purposeful, and game-like practice sessions focused on youth development
● Supervise student-athletes at practices, games, and events, ensuring safety and positive behavior
● Adapt coaching strategies to meet gender-specific engagement needs, to support and retain girls in sports
● Demonstrate a high degree of ethics, sportsmanship, and professionalism, serving as a positive role model
● Adhere to the school’s mission for athletics as wel as league policies and bylaws
● Support program growth at Pilgrim and establish partnerships with the broader Basketbal community
● Remain current on rules, best practices, and trends in coaching youth basketbal
● Proactive and open communication with the Director of Athletics on al issues
Position Requirements
● Prior coaching experience and comprehensive knowledge of Basketbal technique, coaching strategies, and sport-based youth development
● Demonstrated success working with diverse student populations and ability to foster inclusion, engagement, and joy in youth sports
● General knowledge of rules and regulations governing high school athletics in California
● Excelent communication, organization, and leadership skils; able to colaborate effectively with coleagues, parents, and student-athletes
● Basic First Aid and CPR certification (or wilingness to obtain before the start of the season)
● Must complete State of CA required background check
Availability: 5 days per week, approximately 4:00 - 6:00 PM, Nov. 3 until Feb, including extended travel time on game days. Coach is expected to attend preseason training, end-of-year banquet, and Athletics team meetings.
Compensation: $4,500-$6,700 stipend based on availability/team, with bonuses of $500-$2,250 for making the playoffs and/or winning a state championship.
