The Opportunity:
The College Preparatory School, an independent high school in Oakland, California, seeks a temporary part-time Communications Associate to provide coverage from January 2026 through May 2026. This part-time role supports the Communications Director in producing a wide range of print and digital projects, event communications, and social media content and reports to the Director of Communications.
For more than 65 years, The College Preparatory School has cultivated a community of curious learners, engaged thinkers, and compassionate citizens. Our Communications team helps tell the story of this vibrant community through creative, accurate, and timely communications.
The part-time Communications Associate will play an essential role in advancing College Prep’s communications. The ideal candidate is a strong project manager, collaborative communicator, and detail-oriented creative who can balance multiple priorities and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities
Content Creation & Project Management
- Draft, edit, and proofread communications for print, email, and web
- Assist with design and production of school publications, invitations, and event collateral (e.g., Spring Benefit catalogue, graduation program, alumni and parent communications)
- Update webpages as needed
Social Media & Digital Communications
- Curate, write, and schedule posts for Instagram, highlighting student life, academics, athletics, arts, and community events
Event & Community Communications
- Prepare materials for major school events (e.g., Spring Benefit, Alumni Reunion, Graduation, Senior Parent Gift campaign)
- Collaborate with Advancement team on donor, alumni, and parent communications
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, English, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 2–3 years of communications, marketing, or project management experience
- Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills with attention to detail
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar design tools
- Experience managing social media platforms (especially Instagram)
- Comfort with juggling multiple projects on tight timelines
- Collaborative, flexible, and proactive team player
Schedule & Compensation
- Part-time (estimated 20–25 hours per week), January 2026 – May 2026
- Hourly range: $38-$42. Compensation commensurate with experience
- This role requires working on campus and offers free parking, social and networking events to build community, and lunch prepared daily for faculty and staff.
