    Full-time French as an Additional Language Learning Specialist Position

    Job Description

    The Lycée Français de San Francisco is seeking a passionate and experienced Primary French as a Second Language Learning Specialist for the 2024-2025 school year. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching French as a Foreign Language (FLE) and Français Langue Seconde (FLS) and be committed to providing a rigorous and engaging learning environment for students.

    Our School

    The Lycée Français de San Francisco is a French immersion College Preparatory school in the San Francisco Bay Area, providing a challenging educational environment based on the French national curriculum. Our program is designed to provide students with a structured, well-assimilated body of general knowledge while encouraging the development of analytical and critical thinking skills. Our students earn an American high school diploma and prepare for the French Baccalauréat, which qualifies them to attend European universities.

    The preferred candidate will:

    • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and homeroom teachers, participating in pedagogical meetings and co-teaching.

    • Demonstrate strong teamwork skills and accountability by setting clear goals, monitoring progress, and adjusting instruction based on student needs.

    • Be comfortable with the push-in format (support within the class).

    • Use evaluations and assessment data to guide instructional decisions and provide targeted student support.

    • Support and promote cultural aspects of the French language within the curriculum.

    • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills.

    • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and achievement.

    • Favor oral practice to support writing skills development.

    Responsibilities

    • Support French language acquisition to non-French-speaking students in kindergarten and elementary school (GS-CM2).

    • Attend and actively participate in meetings with teachers and families to consult and prepare support protocols.

    • Establish progressions and create evaluations (both diagnostic and final) following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

    • Teach students with materials and resources used by the homeroom teacher when necessary.

    • Set learning objectives that consider individual skills following CECRL and make these objectives explicit to students, guardians, and homeroom teachers. 

    • Encourage practice and familiarization with the French language beyond the school day through participation in cycle and school pedagogical projects.

    • Participate in educational teams, cycle councils, teacher councils, and school councils.

    • Provide training and support for teachers to support non-Francophone students.

    • Support the French immersion school effort by identifying and sharing resources with the community.

    Qualifications

    • DAEFLE or equivalent, or Master in FLE.

    • Strong knowledge of the specific contents of the CECRL for FLE and FLS.

    • Experience in teaching in a multilingual context with multicultural students.

    • Monitor and evaluate student progress.

    • Communicating regularly with students, parents, and guardians regarding student progress.

    • Ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.

    • Effectively manage class discipline, using positive rather than negative methods as much as possible.

    • Punctual presence in all classes and meetings and in the completion of all duties.

    • Participation in school events.

    • Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of diverse learners.

    • Familiarity with technology and innovative teaching strategies.

    • Culturally competent and committed to equity and inclusion.

    • Take on a variety of tasks flexibly, as necessitated in the breath of this work.

    Candidates with 3 to 5 years related experience in the education field can anticipate a yearly salary, ranging from: $ 76,710 to $ 79,858 for 31 hours per week (based on Salary Grid 2024/2025). The salary offered to the successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience in the job, type and years of experience in the industry, education, etc. LFSF offers a negotiated salary range.
