Job Title: Laboratory Technician
Reports to: Middle School Principal and High School Principal
Job Summary:
Prepares chemicals, lab equipment, for teaching lab. Maintains laboratory facilities and stockroom for experiments. Plans laboratory exercises with faculty. Tests and conducts experiments, exercises, and demonstrations. Provides technical assistance to teachers concerning experimental preparations and procedures. Ensures compliance with health and safety standards of laboratory operations.
Welcomes and assists students in the lab, offering guidance, and provides courteous, collaborative support to teachers.
Key Responsibilities:

Prepares adequate quantity and quality of chemicals for experiments in a timely manner.

Prepares, issues and replaces laboratory equipment.

Greets and assists students during lab sessions, answering questions and guiding them to proper techniques and safety procedures.

Collaborates with teachers to plan and implement lab activities that align with course objectives.

Responds to technical questions, questions related to stock solutions, and use of equipment to sciences teachers.

Maintains supplies and equipment inventories; orders supplies and equipment for laboratory; keeps stockroom organized.

Maintains teaching equipment and instruments to ensure accuracy and efficient performance.

Serves as safety officer for teaching laboratory; stays in lab to oversee safety during scheduled teaching time.

Plans support of laboratory experiments, ensuring adherence to protocols and safety regulations; assists in troubleshooting and correcting experimental errors.

Develops quality standards and programs; maintains quality of stockroom, safety, and environmental regulations, and other applicable requirements.

Maintains a welcoming and supportive environment for all students, encouraging curiosity and engagement with scientific processes.

Demonstrates professionalism and respect when interacting with faculty, fostering positive working relationships.

Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications:

Educational Background:
-

A.A./B.A. or equivalent in a relevant subject; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.

Ability to prepare stock chemicals according to given standards.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to analyze and solve problems.

Knowledge of the use and maintenance of laboratory facilities and/or equipment.
-
Knowledge of laboratory and experimental protocols and procedures.

Strong knowledge of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Sciences.

Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.

Ability to provide technical guidance and training to end users.
-
Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.

Knowledge of teaching laboratory materials receiving and storage procedures.
-
Ability to utilize, calibrate, configure and/or troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instruments.

Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.

Knowledge of laboratory operations and/or procedures.

Knowledge of chemical, hazardous waste, industrial hygiene, and/or environmental health standards.

Ability to enforce laboratory safety.

Ability to maintain records and perform basic mathematical calculations.

Organized and rigorous, works closely with eight Faculty staff members.

Worked in a practical setting of a school/hospital/laboratory.

Proficiency in French and English required.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
-
Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
Start Date: August,18st 2025
Status: Non-Exempt, 80% of Full-Time Equivalent
Location: LFSF campuses with the administrative office located at 1201 Ortega Street / Sunset
Candidates with 1 to 3 years related experience in the Maintenance field can anticipate a yearly salary, ranging from: $ 54,000 to $ 56,000 (this represents the prorated, 80% FTE salary) based on Salary Grid 2024/2025. The salary offered to the successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience in the job, type and years of experience in the industry, education, etc. LFSF offers a negotiated salary range.
