Viewpoint School is currently seeking an Associate Director of College Counseling. The Associate Director of College Counseling reports to the Director of College Counseling and will join a team of four college counselors and a registrar/administrative assistant. Assigned in 9th grade, students work closely with counselors who support the college application process, provide academic advising, and foster a connection with a caring adult in the community. College counselors are part of an experienced and committed faculty and administration. Caseloads average 30-35 per class.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Serves as academic advisor and college counselor for a caseload of 9th-12th Grade students, guiding course selection, supporting college process completion, and providing social and emotional support
- Meets with students individually, with families, and in class meetings for academic advising and college counseling
- Oversees academic progress of students in caseload
- Writes letters of recommendations for students in caseload
- Coordinates and presents informational events and webinars for students and parents/guardians
- Plans and runs college workshops for students
- Represents Viewpoint School at state and national conferences and networks with admissions professionals to learn about national trends and school programs
- Guides students through college application completion
- Communicates with students and families through meetings, email, phone, social media
- Is a member of the Student Support Team, Education Council, and Admission Committee
- Helps plan and chaperone the School’s college tours, class retreats, and field trips
- Assists in administration of the PSAT and AP exams
- Assists at Viewpoint admission events
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Bachelor’s Degree and prior experience in college counseling and/or admissions required
- Master’s Degree and college admission experience preferred
- Outstanding skills in interpersonal communication, leadership, decision-making
- Strong skills in writing, public speaking, detail orientation, organization
- Need for confidentiality
- Embraces a team approach, with ability to collaborate as well as work independently
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, social media, college application platforms (SCOIR)
- Data reporting and AI proficiency a plus
- Occasional evening and weekend events and webinars
- Other duties and responsibilities as shall be assigned by Head of School or supervisor
Compensation: Anticipated base compensation is $105,000-$115,000 depending on experience.
