Middle School Mandarin Teacher (Temporary)

    Position Type: Temporary from September 2025 - February 2026

    Pay Rate: $50.00 per hour

     

    Established in 1920, Bentley School is a K-12 co-educational, independent day school located on two campuses in Oakland (K-8) and Lafayette (9-12), California. Bentley seeks a Temporary Middle School Mandarin Teacher at the K-8 campus in Oakland.

     

    Criteria:

     

    Self-motivated individuals who want to play an integral role in a dynamic school community.  

     

    Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

     

          Teaching four middle school classes, levels Mandarin A to Mandarin D

          Working with and developing daily lesson plans as needed

          Proctoring and evaluating assessments such as: quizzes, tests, oral exams, compositions, etc.

          Supervising playground duty, traffic duty, and study hall duties as assigned

          Working collaboratively with administration, grade level teachers, specialists and teaching associates

          Developing and maintaining positive relationships with colleagues, students, and families

          Communicating effectively with parents in formal and informal conferences, written reports, newsletters, and other school-approved channels

          Supporting and following school policies and procedures

          Being a positive and contributing member of the Bentley community

          Creating a positive learning environment both remotely and on campus where students thrive academically

          Attending regular faculty and grade-level meetings

          Attending evening and weekend special events

          Assisting with pick up and drop off duties

          Other duties as assigned

     

    Qualifications:

     

          Strong Mandarin speaking and writing skills

          Bachelor’s degree, with a Master’s preferred

          A desire to work with young people

          Experience working with middle or high school students in an academic setting

          Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in both Mandarin and English

          Ability to work and collaborate with World Languages Department faculty
